For those of you who are interested, here’s our convention rates for acommodation at the Crest:

    • Standard Rooms – $135 per night, 3 and a half star rooms, available as single/double/twin-share
    • Superior Rooms – $173 per night, 4 and a half star rooms, available as single/double/twin-share
    • Superior King Rooms – $188 per night, available as single/double
    • Carlton Executive – $234 per night, available as single/double

Lakeview versions of all of these rooms are available for $15 extra per night. These are convention-only rates, so when you book you will need to make sure you say it’s for the Discworld Convention.

If you’re interested in sharing a room (because lets face it, none of those options are what you’d classify as ‘cheap’), leave a message here, or get in touch with Suzie (suzie at ausdwcon dot org).

Edit: Oh, contact details would be useful – 03 9529 4300 and their website

Just another note in regards to sharing – some rooms are twin, some are single/double. Obviously you’ll want the former for sharing, unless you’re quite close to the person you’re sharing with.

It is possible to have more than two people in a room, but the portable beds are limited, and cost a bit extra per night.

And if you definitely want to stay at the Carlton Crest, book now. While we have some Superior rooms set away for us, we can’t get Standard rooms set aside (they’re normally not supplied for conference events).

Ah, and one more thing: If you’ve already booked a room, but had higher rates quoted (which is likely, because the Crest has been confusing the hell out of us with the different costs they were telling us), make sure you call them and change your booking to get the cheaper rates.

So who’s booked rooms so far? I keep meaning to do it, but due to the wavering nature of my employment at the moment, I still am not sure how many days to be in Melbourne for. OK, this probably doesn’t affect the hotel booking (cos I’ll be there Fri/Sat/Sun) but I just have been so busy during the week to ring the Carlton Crest, and too lazy on the weekends.

Should I do it soon? Should we all?

Still not certain about booking my flights yet either… once again, it’s a “how many days can I get off work?” question, assuming I still am at my current job in February….

I’ve booked Fri/Sat/Sun at the Carlton Crest and it was relatively painless (except financially of course grin )

I’ve also booked with virgin flying in on the not-so-red-eye on Fri and out on MOnday evening. I was going to fly Jetstar, but the only flight on Fri didn’t get in til about 5 or 6 pm.

I even remembered to request leave from work. I think that’s doing quite well for a change.

    Cheers,
    Chris

Oh, I booked the 8 and 13th off work as well ;-)

Well I have my room booked 9-12Feb. Still to book flights unless I decide to
    drive down.

I believe the latest from the Carlton Crest is that all rooms are subject to availability. So book as soon as possible, just in case.
You don’t have to pay a deposit to them straight away just get your name in for the size room you need.
My family and I are booked in from the 8th – 11th.

Cool. Booked. Seemed to be OK, and they were happy to confirm the room rate quoted by Pat above, which was good :) I even made sure they said it more than once, just to ensure I wasn’t going to pay $50 more per night than what we’re being charged :)

If theres any rooms left, I’m willing to share. I’ll be there for the 8th through to the 12th. I think. It could be the 11th.

CMOT Dibbler must have moved into backpacker accommodation – theres a hostel offering rates of
$18-$60 per night within 300m of the Carlton. I have my $35 single room booked.

Nice find, Seven-(cough)-Nine, that is indeed close to the Crest, and what bargain basement prices! Should be good for those who can’t afford to stay at the Crest. I’ve already booked my room, and can afford it, so I think I’ll still enjoy some hotel comforts :) But at least this is a decent, nearby, well priced alternative!

ERRATUM: The College lawn Hotel is more like 1 kilometer away from the Carlton, not 300m.

I have a booking in Quest Apartments which is a short tram ride away (www.questonredan.com.au) you need to book before thay give you prices. We got a 2 bed apartment for $90 a night. I’m not sure but i can guess that extra people would be extra.

Info from the FAQ via the Carlton Crest page

What are the check-in and check-out times for the Hotel?
    Check-in is from 2.00pm Check-out is 10.00am

So… for those arriving on the Friday early (say, 12pm for the first round of Thud) we may have to wait to check into our rooms, but I’m sure the hotel staff will mind your luggage until check-in time.

    Thanks for researching that Molokov.
The con will be opening at 12 noon on the Friday, so I’m sure if anyone is arriving between 12 and 2 that day we can set aside a corner for a pile of luggage (as long as none of it eats any of the others).
