    Hello,
I just realised that my flight home is the last Jetstar Melboune to Sydney Flight and leaves that 19:40 on Sunday evening. Unfortunatly to catch the bus to the airport, I have to leave just before 5pm to catch the tram to the bus stop. Is there anyone else on this flight who would like to share a Taxi so that we may attend the closing?

    hi Jennifer,

looks like we might be booked on the same return flight,JQ328

I’d like to share a taxi to get out to Avalon.

    My look at Viclink
    (jp.metlinkmelbourne.com.au)
presumably replicated your inspection, indicates you need an hour to go the 6km to Spencer St station for the Geelong train. A taxi would presumably make that within 15 mins. Add a 10 min margin and we could depart the closing ceremony at 5:35.

You need a taxi again from Little River station to the Avalon airport, so there is another economy.

Of course we could just taxi the whole way to Avalon, but half of a 50km taxi ride would still be a big whack of change.

Just so as you know. . . . You can’t always guarantee a cab will be at Little River. . . . or that the train will run to timetable.

Twelve and a half percent! Twelve and a half percent!

OK, heres some more info and options, drawn from whereis,
    The Sunbus coach
    and meltrip

we could leave the closing ceremony at 17:15. A little rude,
But we would be able to taxi to meet the shuttle bus leaving Southern Cross 17:35.
Per person, thats about $26 (=$7+$19)

Or, we could stay til 17:30, taxi to Werribee to get on the shuttle bus’s 6pm pickup.
    Thats about $40(=$25+$15).

Or we could book a pickup by the shuttle bus direct from the Crest Hotel. This looks like a good option financially. $30 for one leg. Too bad its probably a departure around 17:05.

Refining my first rail-trip proposal above, a 17:35 departure would get us the most more Con time for a cost of about $23 ($6+$7+$10). It just requires prebooking a taxi, pehaps from the train by mobile once we are underway and can predict our arrival time at Little River.

There is still the one-taxi-trip-the whole way option.
An $88 fee for 60 km would actually be competitive with some of the above options once you split it down the middle to make $44 per person.

    Hello,
Sorry about being slack in answering.

I have had a look at the attendees and there are 60ish people comming from NSW. I Think there is a good chance of finding another couple of peole to share a taxi so I am up for shaing a taxi the entire way as it lets me stay for the end of the closing. Another person or two and we are down to under $30 each which is entirely reasonable and if we don’t get the extra interest, then I will still pay my half of the taxi fare.

The hotel’s estimate (just called the concierge desk) is about $60 for the taxi, so it makes even more sense if we can even get one more person as it is competitive with the other options.

    Talk to you soon
    Jen
