Hi folks,
I'm going to be in Melbourne next weekend for a wedding, but will have a bit of spare time on Monday, March 7.
Would anyone like to meet up for lunch/dinner and a chat? I'm fairly certain I don't know any of you Melbournites, although I have met Pat once in person...
In any case, if someone wants to nominate a place and time,
I'll be there. Oh, yeah, make it easily accessible by public transport, I'll be staying with my sister in Hughesdale (near Chadstone Shopping Centre).
For identification I'll try and wear a Discworld-related T-shirt, or if not, I'll wear some of the DW pins you can get from CMOT Briggs.
Hope I get to meet at least a few of you in advance of the Con next year...
Seeya. Danny.

Hi Danny,
I would like to be there but would only be able to manage lunch as I have a 12 year old as well as a 7 week old girl.
I like to meet other people who are a little crazy like me.*insane cackle in the background.*lol
Kerry.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up!!

I would like to meet up with everyone that can make it - I only find out about my work roster of a saturday though so I can't say what time. If I am available at whatever time is chosen I will be there!

Lunch is out of the question for me, being at work all day, but dinner that night should be fine.
No idea if I've got something else on, as I'm currently laptopless (and guess where my calendar is), but I'm pretty sure I'm free.

Yeah... I'm free for the evening as well, if the evening is when it happens.

Evening seems best then - so would a local please suggest a good place to meet & eat? And a time?

Meh... I'm lousy at picking places to eat out. Especially in Melbourne where my brain tends to get overloaded with choice (I'm just a simple Perth boy deep down).
But, keeping something central in mind you've got:
Lygon Street which (I'm reliably informed) is the strip where most of Melbourne's eateries are located. You can pretty much find any type of food you're looking for here - and it'll be good because competition is so high. Every time I end up on Lygon Street though, I just end up eating pizza. Sigh
South Bank is great if you want something *really* close to the train station. Plus it's very, very pretty, overlooking the city and river beautifully. It's also close to an English style pub downstairs if people feel like drinking afterwards. I like beer. Beer is my friend.
And then you have the newly developed docklands. A little harder to get too (you'll need to take a short tram ride from the train station), but it's simply gorgeous down there. I've eaten a couple of times there now, and have never been disappointed.
If I had to suggest an area to eat, I'd suggest one of these three. There is a ridiculously huge range of other places to choose from though - this being Melbourne and all. Do people have other suggestions?

Would someone please just pick a restaurant that they like and isn't too noisy and fairly central (whether that be the city, Lygon St, Southbank, Chapel St, St Kilda, wherever)?
I need to know by Thursday night at the latest where we'll meet and at what time, because I may not get a chance to check anything over the weekend, being internet starved for a few days...
Thanks :)

Um, going by memory here, but is there a place called Blue Train in the complex on Southbank, just over the bridge from Flinders St Station? I can't seem to find a useful address for it on the web.
I remember it being a nice place and wouldn't mind going again.
So... unless anyone has a better idea (and if you do, please say so NOW!) we could go there.
Because I'm not 100% sure where I'm going, would someone who does know meet me on the front steps of Flinders St Station at 6.30pm(ish, depending on trains) on Monday?
Please could people resond ASAP as I may not be able to check this message board after tomorrow night.

Danny, I can meet you there.
And there's several places in Southbank, so its not like we have to make a decision now - but hey, if you recommend Blue Train, that's fine with me. Generally when I'm at Southbank I just eat in the foodcourt.

Ok - I'm going to meet you guys there at that time too. I'll be the guy who looks like me with a beard.

I probably won't be able to make it - so watch out for the guy with the wooden leg. I don't know him but apparently he's not a friendly customer.
