Well, I ain't seen SWEP3, or H2G2 yet, but I did watch the first episode of the return of the Doctor.

Effects weren't bad, but the story was pretty crap, and the acting dreadful. In fact, everything I used to enjoy about Dr Who.

Actually, compared to sitting out the Dockers v Hawthorn the next day, Dr Who was positively rivetting. (And I'm a Dockers fan!).

At one stage the Tardis was in a yard that had locked gates. I thought this looked extremely like the set in the very first episode of the very first series, where we first saw the Tardis materialise. Any comments?

The Beeb have put a good show up on bbc.co.uk (follow the "TV" button, then the link under BBC One) - quite a lot of humour, background etc.

Just something to do until Feb 07

I've never really watched Doctor Who, but from what I've heard this series gets better as it goes along.

And I quite liked the Dockers v Hawks game :)

After making this post I had a thought, which I must say came as quite a surprise.

But after the surprise the thought was, I don't have any recollection of any references in Discworld books to Dr Who, its characters or theme.

I'm quite surprised if this is so, given the depth of following in the UK, its general acceptance around the world and the fact that it's never been just another in a genre but has always set its own pace.

I loved it, having been a great fan of the Doctor and catching up will all those stories that I had missed before.
What I did like about the show on Sat was all the one liners. Found it very comical but from what I could see of episode 2 looks like written by someone who is an HGTTG fan.

I didn't mind the new Dr Who. I have seen the majority of the first Doctor, and bits and pieces of other Doctors from DVDs. Not enough to say I'd have a favourite but I did enjoy William Hartnell.
I'm waiting to see more of this series before I decide whether it is any good or not. I hear it has Daleks coming up, that should be good!

I've heard the Daleks make an appearance as well - that should be fun!

I actually really liked the new episode. The guy who played the Doctor (can't remember his name at the moment) seemed to have that same air that made his predecessors so charasmatic. But then again, it might just have been arrogance.:) And it had great energy.

William Hartnell was cool, but I have to say it would be a toss up between John Pertwee and Tom Baker for myself. I couldn't stand the guy who came after Tom Baker.

I'm still out on how good it is, but it seems promising.

I've seen the first four and I really like it. I never used to watch Dr Who much when I was little 'cos it scared the bejeezus outta me. The new one has great brittish humour, resonably fast paced action and cool aliens.. and a few bad puns for good measure.

I can't really compare with previos Doctors but Chris Eccleston is fantastic. It's a shame he's only staying for one series.

I think he didn't want to be type cast. BBC was not very happy

And also Rose (Billie Piper) quits part way through series 2, I believe.

From the trailer the special effects in Saturday's episode look really good - Mental note to set the recorder going, as I'll be at Subi oval watching the mighty Dockers stick it to the Lions (although tinged with slight regret, as my wife, who will also be there, used to teach Simon Black in primary school).

And now normal programming will continue for those heathens who refuse to believe in the the light and the truth, which is Aussie Rules.

    The tenth Doctor has been announced;
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/news/drwho/2005/04/18/18639.shtml
This means his tenth incarnation, which I have learned Somewhere that I can't remember where (sorry, no references) that a Time Lord has only twelve incarnations possible.
Assuming that the First was in fact the first then this means Doctor Who cannot live forever! He will only have another two possible incarnations left.
However, I have also learned from the same Somwhere that The Master has had more than twelve incarnations due to his sneaky workings (I don't know how) So it is possiblt that the Doctor may still have a few tricks up his sleeve so that the series may continue on to the end of time...
If anyone has any better information on this I would love to hear it :-)

Did anyone else feel that last night's episode lacked a little something?
It was great that they brought back the Daleks, but... hmmm... it seemed... a bit weak? I don't know, but I thought it was a little disapointing. The old ones managed to cram so much into 20 minutes, the new ones (mainly last night's I thought) are a lot slower. I'm ambivalant.

I liked the Dalek episode. It was good to see the Doctor with emotions other than those that fall under the category of 'quirky'
I guess there could have been more to it, but it was good enough for me, I just hope the explain more about the Dalek - Time Lord war.
Just for warning, next weeks episode has been rated the least favourite of many fans. So only 2 weeks until the next good episode!

Yes the latest Doctor has far more normal emotions than previously, probably brought about by the War.
As to ho he would be able to extend past 12 re-incarnations I don't know as the Master had to use a lot of power to bring about his 13th re-incarnation
