I have just read on News.com.au that terry has been voted by the British public as the second best living Britsh Author.
    Read the list here:

Neil Gaiman didn’t make the cut, I’m afraid.

Neil Gaiman actually came in at #21 – which was a fair effort considering he wasn’t on the list of default choices.

I don’t really know all that many British authors but I think Neil should have been in the top ten….top fifteen at the least…

< sulks > Rowling only won because she made her debut more recently.

Yeah… She also made thousands of kids want to read and even though that is not a reflection on the quality of her writing I guess people thought that was worthy of a few votes.
I’ve never read any of her books. Only seen the movies and I didn’t really think all that much of them.

Well, in my opinion the first book was a great kids book and deserves to be read, the next two were also pretty good, after that they started going downhill, with me being completely unable to read the sixth one through (although I did peek to see how it ended in case it got better). So, the first book or three was/were hype-worthy, but not the rest. Although I concede that other people may disagree completely with my opinion.

The movies were worse than the books. Having read all the books I would have to say the movies are going downhill alot quicker. I can only hope that no-one says things like this about discworld.

Noah’s Ark is a problem. We’ll have to call it early quantum-state phenomenon.

All the media hype has completely put me off Harry Potter. I havn’t senn the fourth movie (the only bit I’m interested in is the dragon). The main incentive to read the last book is to find out if I’m right about R. A. B.

Yeah, media hype has a similar effect on me (so I am forced to admit that my poor opinion of the books may be in part due to the hype – I cannot tell). I can’t really comment on the quality of the movies – I saw the first one when it came out, and haven’t watched any since, so I don’t honestly know what they are like.

I’m slow, what exactly is R.A.B.?

Dibbler, you’ll need to have read Book 6 (HPatHPB) to understand that reference. It’s one of the unresolved mysteries at the end of the book, which will obviously have significance in Book 7.

Everyone i’ve spoken to about it has come to the same conclusion, by the way. So if you’ve also come up with an answer, don’t bother feeling too smug when you’re proved right.

OMG. I think I’ve just worked out where the real locket is!
