I played a game of Cranium with some friends last night, and one of the word puzzles was to guess the meaning of ‘dibbler’.

So not only is a dibbler a ‘pointed stuck for planting bulbs’ (1 point if you already knew this – I didn’t!), it is apparently also a carnivorous marsupial found near Albany, Western Australia, once considered extinct, but rediscovered in 1967.

Nothing was said about its ability to sell sausages-in-a-bun or any throat cutting.

Just an interesting piece of trivia for everyone!

Is there another meaning lost in English history?

    LOL

Did you giggle quietly to yourself? Or did you try to explain?

My friends, although not as avid fans as myself, have still all read some Pratchett, so no explanation of my amusement was necessary :)

Yes, but why did they read them? Was it a defensive measure to shut you up?

No, most of them had already read a few when we met. In fact, I met my friend Martin at university because I noticed he was looking up Pratchett stuff on the internet in the computer labs. His enthusiasm for any particular fandom has waned over the years, but we’re still friends :)

Ah well, there goes my theory. My OH finally read one to find out what we were going on about, it didn’t shut us up though.
