Continuing on from the 'Release Dates' thread...
I know it's unfair to compare Thud! to Night Watch, but at the same time I can't help but love the more sinister element that was introduced with Vimes in it.
Having said that though, Pratchett writes politics bloody well and I thought the slight turn towards troll history and culture was great. I reckon Detritus was right - the dwarfs have had the spotlight for a while now and it'd be interesting to hear some more on troll matters.
But that's just me. Other people's reactions?
Thud! (may contain spoilers)

Definately. I just like the way Tpratcett portrayed the whole Koom Valley thing. Very well written. I also liked the way Detritus was portrayed.
Noah’s Ark is a problem. We’ll have to call it early quantum-state phenomenon.
I think it’s sweet; Geelong having it’s own Sci-Fi Club

The politics was very good in it all, and the fact that the elders of a race or religion would cover up the truth so that the lies that their society has been built around will not crumble. A view that many have of the catholic church with the whole mary magdalene thing that is done to death in Da Vinci Code.

I thought there were faint allusions to The Da Vinici Code in the Codex in Thud!
Does anyone know if the chicken was meant to be referring to something in particular? I got the feeling it was, but I couldn't get it...

I think it is based on some guy who did a painting of a battle and he went mad thinking some animal was coming to get him. I have no idea what painting, battle or artist but I have heard a story like that before.

Faint allusions?
