Thanks Too, I’ve noticed with game board’s and piece’s that some really are better than other’s. I wonder how many different companies are making the game and the difference between them ?

    Fussy aren’t I.

Bernard Pearson made the original ones – and then later, I think, they’ve become mass produced.

    Bernard designed them all.

There’s a few different styles available (check the Thud! website ) but the only version I’ve seen in Australian shops is the mass produced ‘cheapest’ version (which is still quite nice).

The original release is the one that is cheap at Games World. There was a newer release just after the novel Thud! was out, which used Paul Kidby’s Thud! novel cover, but I think the contents of the set were the same… except
the rules to Koom Valley Thud were included. (You can find these on the website in case you have the older set like me)

there doesn’t happen to be anyone who knows where i can get one in W.A. is there?
I took down the numbers for those shops in S.A. so hopefully they are still able to get one.
is it the very original set that has the pieces that look like the ones on the book’s cover?

Nope, very original sets were out a few years before the book, so they have a different cover.

thank you for the kind offer, but i stumbled across a set in geraldton!
although a little confused about a few of the rules, its quite fun.
of course at the moment I’m just playing with myself (ha ha) but apparently a few people here play, so its all good. thanks again.

Id like to get a game and was thinking the same thing. Who am I going to play it with ?

I’ll probably still get a game when I find one I like. I thought Id wait until I find one that has the right looking Troll’s and Dwarf’s.

Who know’s. Maybe one day it will be an Olympic sport ?

I might actually watch the Olympics if they played Thud. Of course it would only be worthwhile if they had live pieces. Use those heavy weight types, as trolls it’d would be rather interesting to watch.

    That’s great Ben. Enjoy!!

Maybe you could play longdistance. The Duck has it and might be interested.

By email, maybe? I know you’ve got everyone’s addresses, Suz.

I’ve played longdistance Thud with one of my fellow Room 3ber’s (I’ll post a link if anyone’s interested in wandering over there). It was pretty good, until we both ran out of time to play and the game sort of halted mid-battle. We eventually decided to call it quits (by this time my board was covered in dust and starting to warp). He won, but only be default – I reckon if we’d kept playing I could have beaten him in about three more moves. Or I might not have.

I’m up for playing via email or something if someone wants to.
