I'm a bit wary about that. In my experience movies based on books are _never_ as good as the books, and quite often the story is changed (often quite dramatically), which I have serious issues with. If this movie gets made I can see myself having a huge internal struggle about whether I should go see it or not. I don't like movies based off books I've read, as a rule, and usually avoid them. But this could be quite tempting.

Not always true about books being better than the movie. Forrest Gump Movie I think is heaps better than the book, Godfather is about equal.
As long as they stay true to the concept of the Wee Free Men it coudl be a fantastic movie.
Will just have to wait and see.

Well, I haven't read those (or seen 'the Godfather') so I can't really say. But I did say 'in my experience', and I shouldn't have said 'never', 'coz I've just thought of one or two movies that I did like better than the books - but those same movies still fall in the category of drastically changing the story (sometimes to the extent that only the title and main character names are retained). If it's done right, it'll be good, if not *ominous pause*.

I intend to, I just have never been presented with the opportunity. Kinda like a lot of things really (for instance, I've never seen a full episode of 'Star Trek' - any Star Trek - and only seen small parts of maybe two episodes. This causes me much shame when in company with most geeks)

And I thought I was the only one who hasn't watched Star Treck.
I can happily stand up and proudly proclaim that I never saw a complete episode of Seinfeld, or Friends.
The book/film I was most disappointed with was "Joy Luck Club" - the book was all about feelings and family relationships but the film only got the action.
Just watched Tom Cruise's War of theWorlds - could hardly tell it apart from the book - so close, realistic and believable.
Looking forward to the Da Vinci Code.

To be brutally honest I am dreading Da Vinci Code. I read it well before it became the 'airport' novel it has become (actually read Angels and Demons first) and I reckon Dan Browns writing style is so simplistic that anyone can read it.
Actually he is quite smart cos he writes conspiracy stuff about the catholic church (which we all want to believe) and he writes simply so it is readable and appealling to a mass audience. I read both Angels and Demons and Da Vinci code way too fast for a 400 page novel, they are too easy to read, like reading the Herald Sun in melbourne.
I think the movie may be a let down (the book was pretty good just to easy to read)
No the movie I am waiting for is M! an Australian movie based on Macbeth using he shakespearean dialogue but based in the modern Melbourne Underworld, reckon it should be awesome.

No Star Trek, no Godfather, and I had enough of War of the Worlds several years ago. Gee, I'm doing well.
