Well, basically I want to know what pterry hasn't covered that you would like to see him bring to the Discworld. We've recently seen slo-mo from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Thief of Time), Journalism, post versus clacks (fax or email?). Past topics have been equality, Hollywood, music, religion. What next?

I'd love to see his take on the Olympic games - what would he make of the Olympic Committee corruption, the many Discworld nationalities taking part, the use of drugs, biased judges, the different sports etc etc.

What aspect of our modern world hasn't he covered that you would like to see and think should be in a future Discworld book?

I can’t be having with foreign parts

As part of research for an Olympics book he should be forced to sit down and watch "The Games".

Or somehow combine the Olympics with "The Beautiful Game" World Cup (Soccer for the uninitiated), in fact sport in general and national pride therein.

I can't recall any of the books poking fun at sport, and Gytha's comments lay a strong foundation to build on.

A really good one, as it's not just topical but is an ongoing theme.

All we've really seen so far is the football games in 'Jingo' - I don't think there's really been any mention of sport otherwise. I did think at the time that the whole 'sport as a substitute for war' thing might take off, but nothing like that seems to have happened at all.

I wonder if Pterry browses this forum.

From the talks he's given, he tries not to be influenced by "terrific ideas" from fans and deliberately excludes himself from external factors.

But it would be nice to think that some of the comments here had sparked a creative neuron.

I agree with with a football world cup involving no less then XXXX.

There isn't much else that hasn't been covered, I mean racial stigamtism got covered in Jingo, which covers the riduculous fear of 'muslim' terrorists, which is a disgrace as a terrorists is no more a muslim then an elephant is the pope.

You mean the Pope isn't an elephant? You've shattered all my illusions, I feel so bereft. How will I ever recover?

Perhaps psychotic might be closer to the mark – and speaking of marks, the AFL finally starts (sort of) this weekend with the nab cup – and what a turnup for the books – a bank finally being honest in its advertising!! (The National Australia Bank renaming itself to nab – as it does from my account on many occasions).
