Gaudy Night
It is often said that Wizards don’t have balls. This is one of those traditional Unseen University big dinners, that is not a ball. However, with copious amounts of food, drink1, and more food, plus some entertainment, you’re sure to have one! (a ball, that is.)
Gaudy Night will take place on Saturday, 7th July from 7pm. You can buy tickets via this link.

Entertainment
The Maskerade costume contest will be taking place during Gaudy Night. Participants in the Maskerade do not have to purchase a Gaudy Night ticket, and Gaudy Night ticket holders may participate in the Maskerade. Find out more about the Maskerade here.
We will also have a demonstration from Live Art Body Painting during Gaudy Night, showing the transmogrification from human into something wondrous.
If you would like to undergo your own transmogrification, face or body painting is available by appointment only, during the afternoon. Click here for further information and to book your appointment.
Dietary Requirements
If you have any special dietary requirements, please ensure you include as much detail as possible when you purchase a ticket, or you can send an email with the details to the Head of the Night Kitchen.
We will endeavour to meet all dietary requirements in discussion with the caterers. The Archchancellor wanted to use his mantra of WYGIWYGAINGW2 but Mrs. Whitlow raised an eyebrow at him, so he relented.
The caterers have assured us of the following:
- No dishes contain MSG
- If your dietary requirements mean you cannot eat one of the listed main course options on the menu, a special meal will be prepared for you.
We will do everything we can to ensure your requirements are met – however earlier registration (prior to 1 June) will make this easier on ourselves and the caterer.
Prices
A ticket to Gaudy Night will cost $60.00. This is the same price for all attendees – although we will probably make an exception for babies who aren’t likely to eat the buffet food.
Payment is available via the payment options listed here.
Please note that the meal price does not include drinks, but you will be able to purchase alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at the bar available.
Preference for tickets to Gaudy Night are given to people who have also purchased a membership to the Convivium. If you are not able to come to the entire Convivium, but would like to come to Gaudy Night, please purchase a Supporting Membership to help us cover administration costs.
Closing Date
Please note that Gaudy Night tickets are only available to purchase until 1 June 2012. It is not possible to purchase Gaudy Night tickets at all after this date.
If you have purchased a ticket but can not make it, we can refund you all but $10 of the cost of the ticket. You must ask for a refund prior to 1 June 2012. Refunds are not available after this date, although we would still appreciate being informed that you can no longer make it.
Footnotes:
1 You have to buy your own drinks. We’re not made of money, you know.
