All Aboard! The Discworld Grand Tour awaits!

Pack your bags, feed your iconograph imp, and ensure your Luggage is stocked full of all your travel essentials (not including any brigands it happens to eat along the way). The Discworld Grand Tour is only ONE WEEK AWAY!

This will be our final newsletter before the tour, so for any last minute updates, be sure to follow us on Facebook or Twitter, or keep an eye on the Facebook group for discussion amongst your fellow tourists. This is also the best place to ask any last minute questions!

Entrez vous le Maskerade!

If you have a little skit or song for Vaudeville le Maskerade, don't forget that you MUST send in your entry form for the Talent and Cosplay categories by this coming Wednesday, 2nd August at 5pm. Download the entry forms here and then email them back!

Even if you just wish to show off your fancy costume in the Costume Swish and Twirl, we suggest sending in your entry form this week ahead of the convention, rather than risk missing out, as places are strictly limited!

Don't forget the Twoflower Loud Shirt competition, which is by far the easiest Maskerade category to enter and (hopefully) win!

All the details and entry forms for Vaudeville le Maskerade can be found here.

Make your own Clickies!

Even if you think you're not quite skilled enough to join Otto Chriek's Press Corpse, we would still love to see some moving pictures created by you! If you would like to create your own convention vlog about The Discworld Grand Tour, we'd love you to do so! All we are asking is permission to also put it up on our own Youtube channel after the convention. Filming footage for a vlog can be as simple as grabbing a few minutes of footage at various points of the convention on your smart phone, recording yourself talking about your experiences, and then later editing it together into a finished video.

If you think you'd like to give this a try, please let us know so we can make sure we follow up with you later - but this can definitely be a spur-of-the-moment thing!

(Most things at the convention can be filmed - we'll let you know when it's not allowed. Also please ask permission from people before filming them)

Share your iconographs with us!

We know that many of you will be taking "happy snaps" during the convention, and we'd love to see them all! If you share on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc) please be sure to use the hashtag #ausdwcon and make the pictures public.

We'd also like you to upload your photos to our Flickr group after the convention, as this can be embedded as a slideshow on our website, like all the photos from the previous conventions!

Feel free to check out photos from all the Australian Discworld Conventions: 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and of course, 2017!

Quantum Weather Forecast

Without the interference of well-behaved butterflies, you can expect Adelaide next week to be fairly cold, with the occasional shower of rain. Maximum temperatures will be around 15°C, and with any luck, it won't be too stormy or wet (just a little bit). You can see the latest Bureau of Meteorology forecasts for Adelaide here, and we suggest you check it regularly in the next week.

Plan your tour itinerary with the Events and Activities Timetable!

In case you missed it in last week's update, the timetable for the Discworld Grand Tour is now available! Although we can't promise that nothing will change between now and next week, luckily nothing has changed in the past week, so we're hopeful that this is indeed what you will be able to experience at the convention. Please use this to plan what you want to see and do, and we hope you will be able to get to everything you want, without having to have more than one body like Miss Level.

Explore The Soak!

At the convention, we'll have a lovely little dealers bazaar called The Soak, with the following wonderful stalls:

  • The Big Game Theory - selling board games,
  • Trollwood - selling books, DVDs, and Discworld miniatures and busts,
  • Maid of Maille/The Bead Forest - selling chain maille kits and jewellery, and other crafty things,
  • Cre'atures - selling badges and cute little crafty toys,
  • The Gamebsonian - selling wizard's cloaks and hats,
  • and we also welcome the fabulous Dragon's Blood Creations - selling corsets and other fantastic costumes

Volunteer Roster

If you previously volunteered to help us out during the convention, by now you should have been contacted to work out a volunteer roster. If you've not heard anything, please reach out to headgopher@ausdwcon.org and let us know what times you'll be available to assist in Ops, with Security, etc etc.

Fig leafs and Urns

There has been some amazing original fan artwork produced for this convention, so we'd like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have contributed art for us:

Katie Winchester, Grace Francis, Marion Anderson, Simon Lissaman, Angela Cockburn, Vela Noble, Rhi Wynter, Heath McDonald, Ian Gunn.

See you next week!
