Virtual Hogswatch

Virtual Hogswatch

11th December 2021

Roderick the Hippo as the Hogfather in his sleigh

Hogswatch is coming, the pig is getting fat,

Please put a penny in the old man's hat.

If you haven't got a penny, then a farthing would do,

If you haven't got a farthing, then....

... how about a Supporting Membership so that you can attend Virtual Hogswatch!

What is Virtual Hogswatch?

Virtual Hogswatch is an online, virtual convention happening on Saturday, December 11th, 2021. It will run from 4pm to late, AEST (Sydney time).

It is open (and free) to all attending and supporting members of Nullus Anxietas 7a. It's a chance for us all to catch up, have a bit of fun, and celebrate Hogswatch together! If you hold a supporting or attending membership, details of how to attend will be emailed to you (if you are signed up to the newsletter). To purchase a supporting membership, visit the shop.

Have you been good? Have you been naughty? Will the Hogfather leave you something exciting or just a piece of coal?

We've secured a few all new special guests to come and wish you a Merry Hogswatch! Find out more about them here!

How do I sign up for Virtual Hogswatch?

If you already have a supporting or attending membership for Nullus Anxietas 7a, then that's the only ticket you need!

If you haven't got a membership yet, buy a Supporting Membership here.

All ticket holders should also ensure they have subscribed to our newsletter - we will be using this to email out more information and links.

How do I attend Virtual Hogswatch?

Details about how to attend will be sent out to ticket holders via the newsletter in a direct email - so make sure you are signed up!

You will need an internet connected device with reasonable bandwidth so you can watch video streams. We advise downloading the Zoom Meetings Client/App for your computer, tablet or phone in advance.

Who are the special guests?

You can find out more about all the guests over on this page.

What are the activities?

See the schedule of events here.

Hogswatch Crafting and Cooking

Learn to make some simple Hogswatch crafts, or join Nanny Ogg in the kitchen for some cookery (PG rated, we hope).

To work on your crafts at home you may need the following items:

  • Paper - Origami paper or coloured printing, craft or wrapping paper.
    • It helps if it's white or a different colour on one side - but not essential!
  • Scissors (NOT the fabric scissors, are you crazy?)
  • Pens or textas
  • Paper glue, fancy jewels, bows, split rings (to decorate the Hogfather's boars)
  • Wine. If all else fails, there's wine.

Casanunda's Second Greatest Game Show

As part of Virtual Hogswatch, we are planning a game show. You may be familiar with the format. We will have a panel of contestants (plus you can play along at home). The host asks them a simple but open-ended Discworld-related question. And they have to guess what answers the surveyed audience chose. (And there's a secret surprising twist!)

Sing your heart out with the Hogswatch Carols

At Hogswatch time, carol singing is a must! Join our choir of 1000 (suprising) voices to try and sing along to some wonderful Hogswatch songs (although it may just be a cacophony of noises, who knows?)

Download the song sheet here!

Scavenger Hunt in your own home!

We'll give you a list of things to find around your house, and then ask you some questions about them.

... and more!

How do I participate in the activities?

Many of the activities will just be live videos you can watch, which may or may not have a chat feature where you can give feedback or ask questions. For the most part, you will not have your camera or microphone enabled. When appropriate, you may be asked to unmute or turn your camera on so you can participate more fully. To find out more about all this, be sure to attend the Opening Ceremony at 4pm.

Will any of the videos be available to watch after Virtual Hogswatch?

We plan to make some recordings available after the event but some will definitely not be available at all, so your best bet is to participate on the day! So make sure you mark your calendar!

Rules for participants:

  • We politely ask that you do not record Virtual Hogswatch, as there are copyright issues with some events.
  • We plan to record some events and post them to our YouTube channel at a later date.
  • For some events we will allow members to talk and ask questions directly. Please remember that this is a family friendly event in your choice of words.
  • Be most excellent to each other.

Disclaimer:

  • Virtual Hogswatch is a virtual event, presented live. Whilst we will do our best to ensure good quality audio and video, we cannot guarantee the quality of internet connections.
  • We will do our best to adhere to the published schedule of events, but this may be subject to "things that happen on the day".
