Tour "The Shades" of Sydney
![]()
Need something to do on Monday before your late afternoon flight?
Take a tour of the notorious Darlinghurst, Sydney's version of Terry Pratchett's "The Shades". Tread the paths, like Vimes1, through a suburb known for its "colourful" and violent past.
Here's the blurb:
"Darlinghurst is one of Australia's oldest and most notorious inner-city suburbs. Most people know it for Oxford Street, the Sydney LGBT Mardi Gras and the bars and nightclubs, but beyond that, it is shrouded in mystery. For much of its history, Darlinghurst was synonymous with sex, drugs and murder. Known as Razorhurst in the roaring 1920s, it was the centre of the violent razor gang wars. For over 100 years, the alleys and laneways teemed with prostitutes, dope dealers, and thugs. If the walls of the old corner pubs could speak, the stories they could tell would send shivers down your spine.
This tour will turn whispered myths and legends into reality."
This is a Murders Most Foul tour run by our guide, professional historian and archaeologist, Elliot Lindsay - he knows what he's talking about.

Accessibility of the tour
For individuals who use a walking frame, a cane, or similar assistive devices: Elliott says it shouldn't be an issue as he is happy to stop for rests if needed.
Wheelchair Users: Although he hasn't had one accompany his tour, it shouldn't be a problem, although sometimes there are no footpaths.
