Witchfinding with Miss Tick

Miss Perspicacia Tick has travelled from the Lowlands and is searching for new witches. Nanny Ogg has agreed to help, and Granny Weatherwax is along to ensure Nanny doesn't get up to shenanigans.

But first, for those who missed last month's announcement:

Nullus Anxietas X - The Australian Discworld Convention will be held on 10th - 12th April, 2026, at the Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport Hotel, 241 O'Riordan Street, Mascot, NSW, 2020.

You can find more details and buy your membership in our shop. If you have already bought a supporting membership, please go here to upgrade to an attending membership.

Our Cherished Volunteers

Miss Tick, the famous Witch Finder, is helping us find volunteers.

The Australian Discworld Conventions are run solely on volunteer power, including the committee. Without our volunteers, the conventions just wouldn't happen.

Sure, putting your hand up to help can be quite scary, especially if this is your first convention. But we accept that, and offer you the jobs you know you can handle2.

Some roles may require some expertise, such as helping with tech or first aid. Maybe you've been an usher at another event, or can read a map and give decent directions. The minimal requirement is enthusiasm. Start with that, and you're already qualified. As the planning of Sydney's Nullus Anxietas X convention progresses, we will be calling out for specific roles to be filled, and for people to run events or workshops (see below!).

Volunteering does not entitle you to a free ticket - you will still need to buy a full attending membership. However, you will be rewarded with that warm, fuzzy feeling for helping others, new friends, and the deep respect of your Discworld peers. After all, the Australian Discworld conventions are just like a family reunion.

Go to our Volunteer page for more information and to sign up.

We Want You!

A special message from our Events coordinator, Pog Lewis.

Welcome all Witches, Wizzards and other Discworld entities!

My name is Pog Lewis (often seen at the conventions as Nanny Ogg), and my colleague is Kat (another Nanny Ogg). Together, we are coordinating the events for our much-anticipated convention in Sydney in 2026. Plans are very much underway with many new ideas and the return of some old favourites. To build excitement, we will release information about some of these new events in small doses!

However, some events on the draft schedule don't yet have someone to run them. Could that someone be you?

What does it mean to be an event runner? Well...

  • you agree to be in charge of the event you volunteer for;
  • you volunteer your time to set up and run the event;
  • you liaise with us to ensure you know, and have, the materials needed to run the event, in the right place, at the right time;
  • you agree to have fun, and make the enjoyment of the participants the core of the activity;
  • you will have lots of support from us, we're all in this together!

Current event ideas that need Event Runners:

  • Broom Flying Lessons
  • Carnivorous plants lecture (could you bring some too?).
  • The art of drinking Tea, or Tea Ceremonies.
  • Tell us about Silkworms (Bombyx mori).
  • Bees, honey and/or beekeeping.
  • Fashion: eg, the wearing of black and keeping warm on a broomstick. Occult jewellery and mystic runes.
  • A cackling competition or a gurning4 competition.
  • Make a witch's tangle (using macrame).
  • The physics of mirrors and reflections.
  • Music is particularly welcome – form a Music With Rocks In band.

And that is just the stuff we haven't got runners for!

If any of these ideas takes your fancy, please fill in the volunteer form, letting us know which event/workshop you'd like to run.

Please also let us know if there is anything you'd like to see as an event, especially if you are prepared to run it!

Lots of exciting things still to come.

Keep your eyes (and your bananananana5) peeled for the next update!

1 A Lady Sybil ball gown is as welcome as a Nobby Nobbs "costume" (if he wipes his boots).

2 Far removed from the job of apprentice witches. No trimming old person's gnarled toenails or applying ointment to a messy looking sore; and no goats to tend to.

3 That was a (witch)crafty segue, wasn't it?
