Hello, everyone, and welcome to September! Not a lot of brand new things to share this month, but we would still like to bring a few things to your attention.

Nullus Anxietas 9 - July 12-14, 2024

Our mascot, Rina, would like to invite you to Come Alive in Uberwald! Nullus Anxietas 9 - The Australian Discworld Convention - is only 10 months away! That may seem like a long time, but the committee is hard at work devising a programme, designing merchandise, inviting guests and coming up with as many ideas as we can to make the convention an amazing time for everyone involved.

You can buy your Attending or Supporting Memberships at our website's shop - and keep in mind that you've only got until January 31 to get the discounted early-bird price. If you already have a supporting membership, you can upgrade to an attending membership (now or later) retaining the early-bird price.

The convention will be held at the Grand Chancellor Hotel on Hindley St, Adelaide, and bookings for accommodation at a discounted room rate are available via our website or by calling the hotel on 08 8231 5552 and quoting the code 'DISC'. The convention starts around midday on Friday 12th July 2024, and ends around 6pm on Sunday 14th July 2024, running late into the evenings on Friday and Saturday - so if you want to be well rested and enjoy the full convention experience, we do suggest booking from Thursday-Monday at the hotel (four nights).

Things to see and do...

What sort of events can you expect to see and participate in at the convention? There will be three days full of fun, frivolity and friendship, including:

A large array of Discworld characters (the Maskerade costume competition 2017)

  • Special Guest interviews, panels and Klatches (small intimate chats)
  • The Maskerade costume, talent and prop competition... start planning your entry now!
  • Panels and discussions on various aspects of Terry's works, and possibly related real Roundworld topics such as science or philosophy.
  • A wonderful Gala Dinner where we can dress up, have a good meal, and dance the night away.
  • Fun and Games: A Discworld Quiz, the social deduction game Werewolf, an interactive Murder Mystery, Discworld board games, and many more.
  • Performances by many talented members of our community.
  • The Charity Auction where many Pratchett-related items are sold off to raise money for worthy causes.
  • Art and Craft Workshops - where you can learn new skills from experienced teachers.
  • And... likely a whole lot more.

One thing we need to hear from you is: what would you like to see at the convention? Do you have a great activity idea? Is it something you might be willing to run?

All of our programme is run by volunteers (including the volunteer committee) but we need your help to be one of those volunteers.

If you are willing to run an activity, or help with a discussion panel, workshop, game or... anything, really, then please fill in the volunteer form. We'd be most appreciative of your help.

Also coming up in Adelaide is the City of Small Gods Terry Pratchett Fan Club quiz night - this year titled Quiz Long And Prosper: The Nightmare Before Quiz-mas. This (almost) annual event will be held on Saturday October 28 at the Clarence Gardens Bowling Club, and will act as a fundraiser for the Australian Discworld Convention.
